A Pelham Puppet redressed as the tragic
Marie Antoinette
This design is the second Marie Antoinette design that I have created - please see the other white version in a previous post - White Pelham Puppet redressed Marie Antoinette.
Marie Antoinette was an Austrian Archduchess who was married to the French Dauphin Louis at the tender age of 16. The pair became King and Queen several years later and she was to become infamous for her love of fashion, frivolous spending and flaunting court etiquette. When the revolution broke out in Paris she was the most hated figure representing the old royalist regime, mainly due to the scandal caused by the theft of an astronomically expensive diamond necklace - of which she was totally innocent. She was imprisoned with the rest of the royal family but after a failed escape attempt Louis XVI was guillotined and later that year she was tried and followed him to the scaffold at the age of 37.
The base puppet is a Pelham Puppet fairy whose hair has been replaced with an ornately styled wig topped off with satin spirals, pearls, lace and white feathers.
The gown is a heavy duchesse satin trimmed with white satin poufs, lace and pearl-drop trim sitting on a supportive pannier frame. The boned corset bodice is back-laced and embellished with pearl trim.
