A Pelham Puppet redressed as
- Queen Marie Antoinette of France -
This puppet was a vintage Pelham Puppet 'Fairy' which was redressed as the tragic French Queen Marie Antoinette, who was tragically guillotined during the French Revolution.
Marie was born an Austrian Archduchess. Her mother, Empress Marie Theresa, secured her marriage to the French Dauphin when Marie was only 16 years old and after a rapid period of intense training Marie was packed off to the court of Versailles. She became a fashion icon and was heavily involved in the performing and visual arts but her flamboyant extravagance became a byword for the excesses of the aristocracy and would later come back to haunt her once the French people rebelled. In her last few years she was used as a scapegoat and her status as a foreigner was heavily relied upon by her enemies to negate her.
The inspiration and design was based upon an extant 18th Century Court gown.
Her pannier gown is crafted using duchesse satin, lined with a stable taffeta. It is liberally embellished with hand-crafted satin scallops, gathered lace and pearl trim. The dress support is strongly crafted of three supporting layers. She has a boned corset bodice, which laces at it's back and has a sturdy stomacher with lace overlay. She also sports a pearl drop necklace. Her wig is styled using blonde hair weft, teased and placed in multiple layers and topped with satin 'pouf' headpiece, a goose feather and pearl/diamante accent.
This creation will not fit within a regular Pelham Puppet box.
