A Pelham Puppet redressed as the tragic
Mary Queen of Scots.
This design uses a Pelham Cinderella Puppet as a base. Her hair has been totally replaced with a styled auburn wig and covered by a white, lace trimmed, 'Mary Stuart hood' and veils.
Her gown is crafted from a rich cotton velvet, trimmed with gold braid and her underskirt is cut from a red taffeta. An Elizabethan ruff sits about her neck sitting over a lace partlet and her sleeves are 'mock-slashed' with white lawn and pearls. A silver medallion sits on her bodice front and a silver, beaded, rosary hangs from her waist.
She has jewelled embellishments on her shoes.
Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots was Queen of Scotland nearly from her birth and was Queen of France - through marriage - for a short time in her late teens. Mary returned to Scotland after her French royal husband died and had a greatly troubled rein which swiftly ended in rebellion. Her time ruling Scotland was plagued with murder, uprisings and two very badly judged marriage. She was eventually forced to abdicate and escaped to England - ruled by her cousin Elizabeth I - only to find herself imprisoned for nineteen years - while James Stuart, Mary's only child, was handed the Scottish crown. Finally, it was discovered that the exiled Queen was plotting Elizabeth's assassination and she was put on trial for treason, was proved guilty and beheaded at Fotheringhay Castle.
